A leak from the next edition of the magazine Monthly Afternoon confirmed that the manga written and illustrated by Haruko Ichikawa, Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous), will resume in this year’s eighth issue of the magazine, scheduled for June 24 in Japan. It should be remembered that the manga was suspended indefinitely after the publication of the 95th chapter of the work, made in December 2020.
For his part, Ichikawa publishes the manga in the magazine Monthly Afternoon from the publisher Kodansha since October 2012. The publisher published the tenth compiled volume in August 2019, followed by the eleventh in July 2020. The work inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Studio Orangeunder the direction of Takahiko Kyougoku and scripts written by Toshiya Ounoreleased in October 2017.
Synopsis for Houseki no Kuni
The story takes place in the distant future, in a land inhabited by immortal life forms called “Lustrous”, who are incarnations of precious stones. The 28 Lustrous are led by their master, Kongo, and fight to defend themselves against the Lunarians, who often appear looking for the Lustrous’ bodies to turn into decorations. Phophophyllite, nicknamed Phos, is currently 300 years old, and is the youngest of the group, and due to her frailty she is unable to fight. During a task she takes on for her, she discovers Cinnabar, who is secluded and locked away due to him being corrosive to any other gems. Sad, Phos decides to help him.
