July 12, 2022 in Japan marks five years since the premiere of the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Meguru Ueno, Hajimete no Gal (My First Girlfriend is a Gal). In the same year, an OVA attached to the fifth compilation volume of the work would be released, considered “the eleventh” episode of the series, but since then there have been no updates to the project.
This adaptation project was widely criticized by fans of the manga because too many creative liberties were taken, changing the order of events or directly modifying them through adding characters or modifying their personalities. This means that those who saw the anime and want to switch to the manga have to start from scratch, since the story of both is very different despite having the same core.
Ueno began publication of the manga through the magazine Monthly Shonen Ace from the publisher Kadokawa in November 2015. The publisher published the fourteenth compilation volume in January 2022, followed by the fifteenth on July 26 in Japan.
The play inspired a ten-episode animated adaptation produced by studios NAZunder the direction of Hiroyuki Furukawa and scripts written by Yuuichirou Momosereleased in July 2017. An OVA was released in December of the same year and since then there has been no more news.
