Lycoris Recoil beats Love Live! and Kimetsu no Yaiba in sales this year
the japanese platform Oricon finally revealed the sales numbers of the Blu-ray/DVD compilation packages of the anime series released during the season of Summer-2022 (July-September). This information finally confirmed the success of the original anime from the studios. A-1 Pictures, Lycoris Recoil.
A week after its release in Japan, the first Blu-ray/DVD package of this original anime accumulated 23,383 copies sold, between 21,185 Blu-rays and 2,198 DVDs. With this figure, it is already the series released in 2022 with the highest number of copies sold, exceeding the 21,576 copies sold for the second season of Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Doukoukai (Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club) and the 22,021 copies sold by the anime Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen.
Of course, it turns out Lycoris Recoil is not the release with the highest sales in general, since the film of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 it accumulated 92,147 copies sold of its Blu-ray version and 57,761 copies sold of its DVD version, which adds up to 149,908 copies sold overall. Of course, not being a series as such, it is not considered within a season of the year as such.
Lycoris Recoil Synopsis
The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as assassins to carry out assassinations under its “Lycoris” program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris, with a strong sense of will and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination gets her transferred out of the DA. She’s not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged, but she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations: LycoReco, a coffee shop in disguise.
However, Takina’s new partner turns out to be very different from what she imagined. Despite being the famous prodigy of Lycoris, Chisato Nishikigi seems almost unconcerned about her obligations. She drags Takina into all sorts of odd jobs under the simple guise of helping people in need. Takina is further taken aback when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina is hell-bent on rejoining the DA, but Chisato is determined to show her that there’s more to life than just taking it.
