Lycoris Recoil removes a ‘problem scene’
On the official site for the studios original anime A-1 Pictures, Lycoris Recoila press release was published informing that there will be a change in certain “mid-episode” illustrations, specifically those corresponding to the eleventh, titled “Diamond Cut Diamond“. This change will take effect on Blu-ray releases in Japan and on streaming services.
The statement wrote:
- «We have decided to replace the eye-catching illustration of episode 11 “Diamond Cut Diamond”, which has been aired and distributed recently. The illustration shows a character holding a lycoris radiata flower in his mouth to represent the world of the play, but since the flower in question is a toxic plant, please do not imitate the scene in any way.
- The illustration also appears in the anime’s opening sequence, but will not be replaced with a new illustration, out of respect for the animators’ intent. Please note that the replacement of the 11th episode on each distribution platform will be reflected sequentially due to system and other reasons. We hope you continue to enjoy Lycoris Recoil».
As mentioned in the release, these same illustrations appear in the opening sequence, specifically at 1:10, but will not be altered out of respect for the animation staff who worked on it.
On the other hand, myjitsu previously reported that this illustration had caused buzz on social media in Japan because “showed minors smoking or trying to smoke“, but the production apparently knew”turn the situation around” removing the illustrations, but under another excuse. Even so, there does not seem to be any obvious relationship between the controversy and the committee’s decision.
And what was the replacement? The “mid-episode” illustrations (those that appear before and after the commercial break) were removed from the eleventh episode, and now a new visual appears Takina Inoue and Chisato Nishikigi, respectively.
Lycoris Recoil Synopsis
The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as assassins to carry out assassinations under its “Lycoris” program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris, with a strong sense of will and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination gets her transferred out of the DA. She’s not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged, but she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations: LycoReco, a coffee shop in disguise.
However, Takina’s new partner turns out to be very different from what she imagined. Despite being the famous prodigy of Lycoris, Chisato Nishikigi seems almost unconcerned about her obligations. She drags Takina into all sorts of odd jobs under the simple guise of helping people in need. Takina is further taken aback when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina is hell-bent on rejoining the DA, but Chisato is determined to show her that there’s more to life than just taking it.
