Made in Abyss anime will have a new sequel project

This Sunday, Kadokawa announced the production of a sequel project for the franchise based on the manga written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi, Made in Abyss. However, it has not yet been confirmed if this new production will be a third season for the series or if it will be a movie or OVA. No release date has been set either.

The truth is that, for now, the manga still does not have enough material to adapt to a full-season project for television, however, fans of this franchise can be happy about the confirmation of this announcement and any project will always be welcome.

The author Akihito Tsukushi began publishing the manga through the magazine Web Comic Gamma from the publisher takeshobo in October 2012. The play inspired a thirteen-episode first season released in July 2017, followed by two compilation films, one film titled Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul and a second season released during July 2021.

Synopsis for Made in Abyss

The Abyss… a yawning chasm stretching deep into the earth, filled with mysterious creatures and relics from a bygone time. How was it formed? What’s in the background? Countless courageous individuals, known as “Diggers,” have attempted to solve the mysteries of the Abyss by descending fearlessly into the darkness. The bravest and best of the Diggers, the White Whistles are hailed as legends by those who prefer to stay above ground.

Riko, the daughter of a missing White Whistle, aspires to be like her mother and explore the depths of the Abyss. However, as she is a Red Whistle, she is only allowed to explore the topmost layer. But an encounter with a mysterious robot without memories will mark the beginning of the adventure towards the bottom, unaware that the more they descend, the harsher the reality inside the Abyss will be.
