SPY x FAMILY Adds Over 1.25 Million Copies Sold In Just Two Weeks

The popular Twitter account “WSJ Manga (@wsj_manga)” keeps in constant update the sales numbers published by Oricon in Japan, and recently it is worth looking at what has happened to the manga of Tatsuya Endo, SPY x FAMILYafter the release of its ninth compilation volume on April 4, coinciding with the premiere of its anime adaptation.
Any connoisseur of the industry knows that in the launch week of a new volume there will obviously be a sales boost, that’s why In the week of April 4 to 10 of this year, the literary franchise accumulated 789,583 copies sold (which includes overall sales, not just new volume). Later, In the week of April 11 to 17, the franchise would accumulate another 468,521 copies soldentering the TOP 3 in both weeks.
Thus, since last April 4, the SPY x FAMILY franchise has accumulated more than 1.25 million copies sold, as an effect of its new compiled book volume released earlier this month and the premiere of its anime adaptation. However, with the second factor, sales are expected to remain at a high point for the next few months. After all, SPY x FAMILY managed to pass 15 million copies sold without needing an anime.

Tatsuya began publishing the manga through the website Shōnen Jump Plus from the publisher Shueisha in March 2019. The publisher published the eighth compilation volume in November 2021, followed by the ninth on April 4 in Japan. An anime adaptation produced by the collaboration between WIT Studio Y CloverWorks It has been broadcast since April 9.
Synopsis for SPY x FAMILY
For the agent known as “Twilight”, no order is too high if it is for the sake of peace. Operating as Westalis’s master spy, Twilight works tirelessly to prevent extremists from unleashing a war with neighboring Ostania. For his latest mission, he must investigate Ostanian politician Donovan Desmond by infiltrating his son’s school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Thus, the agent faces the most difficult task of his career: getting married, having a child and playing family.
Twilight, or “Loid Forger”, quickly adopts humble orphan Anya to play the role of a six-year-old daughter and prospective Eden Academy student. As a wife, she meets Yor Briar, an absent-minded office worker who needs a pretend partner to impress her friends. However, Loid is not the only one with a hidden nature. Yor is actually the deadly assassin “Thorn Princess” and for her, marrying Loid creates the perfect cover. Meanwhile, Anya is not the ordinary girl that she appears to be; she is an esper, the product of secret experiments that allow her to read minds. Though she discovers her true identities, Anya is thrilled that her new parents are cool secret agents! She would never tell them, of course. That would spoil the fun.
