The popular Japanese medium Famitsu conducted an interview with Satoru Honmaanime producer Cyberpunk: EdgerunnersY Hiroyuki Imaishiproject manager at the studios trigger. The interview asked about different details of the production, such as its beginnings and decisions about the content, but one question in particular was the one that attracted attention in forums and social networks.
It should be noted that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners it has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, maintaining a score of 8.72 points on the platform MyAnimeList and being one of the highest-rated series of all of 2022. Therefore, it is not surprising that fans are waiting for information about a sequel project that is in production.
Unfortunately, the producer Satoru Honma preempted all of these comments during the interview in question, and definitively confirmed that there is no sequel project planned for this series. The producer stated:
- Personally, I’d like to continue working with Japanese studios to produce more animation projects in the future, in part because we’ve received such good feedback. But, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has always been a standalone, standalone production, so there’s no “we’re working on season two behind the scenes right now.” Even if we could do a sequel in the future, I don’t know if it would be a second season or a completely different production.

Dreams are doomed to die in Night City, a futuristic Californian metropolis. When an incident with a street gang leaves David’s life in tatters, he stumbles upon the Sandevistan cyberprogram, a prosthetic that grants its wearer superhuman speed. Filled with rage, David implants the device in his back and uses it to exact revenge on one of his tormentors.
This causes him to be expelled from the academy, shattering his hopes of making his mother proud. Upon seeing David’s new abilities, the beautiful data thief Lucyna “Lucy” Kushinada offers to team up with him, giving him a ticket to salvation. However, by teaming up with Lucy, David enters the world of the Edgerunners, cyborg criminals who break any law for money. Edgerunners often lose their lives, if the cyberware doesn’t break their minds first; But in his fight for survival within a corrupt system, David is willing to risk it all.
